As much as it pains me to rant about a friend, I have to say some of her phone habits absolutely drive me up the wall. I hate it when someone puts me on hold for a long time while they have a discussion with someone else in the room. If you want to squabble with your son, either do it AFTER you get off the phone with me or say your goodbyes to me and hang up. Don't leave me hanging around with my ear to the phone waiting for you to decide to get back to me.

I also hate it when someone is watching tv, reading something, in the car, or whatever and makes a comment about something they're seeing which I am not, like "Can you believe he just did that??". And I'm like who? What did they do? Try to remember that a person on the phone has no reference to what you're talking about so if you want to include them in the conversation, you have to explain what you're talking about!!! Like "Oh, I'm driving through the Wal-Mart parking lot looking for a place to park and some guy took the spot I was trying to get in and flipped me the bird! Can you believe he just did that??"

One other thing. If Missy says she's going to call you, don't hang around waiting for the phone to ring. I don't think she's ever called me when she told me in advance she was going to call. I know people get busy with stuff, I understand that, but don't say you're going to do something and then don't do it. If you habitually never get around to calling people, maybe you should stop making that offer.
