Not Worth Writing Home About I was thinking about this expression today and how outdated it is. Even in its heyday, I wonder if all that many people did find too many products they tried worth writing home about. Surely sliced bread must have prompted some letter writing since they always say something great is the best thing since sliced bread. So did people really use to try something new and say "These jalapeno Doritos are pretty darn good, by heck! I'm going to write to mom and tell her all about them"?
Does anyone really write letters anymore? People have so many other ways to communicate these days. If you want to get a message to your folks, you can email them, call them, text them, etc. The closest most people come to writing letters is picking out a greeting card to send and scribbling their name and perhaps some small sentiment on the card. The card itself does all the talking.
With the advent of faster communication, would it be more appropriate to say something is not worth texting home about? Or since it's so quick and simple to send messages, is anything truly not worth taking 2 seconds to send a message out?
And yet people still use this archaic phrase. It's really kind of funny when you think about it.

They should change it to "Nothing to forward an email to your friends about".

Christmas cards and birthday cards are still sent old school. So maybe they can say "Nothing to send a card about".
