Greeting cards I was thinking the other night that the greeting card industry, for all their variety of cards, still doesn't meet the needs for all situations. I often have trouble trying to find the right card for the right occasion and sometimes have to settle for something that's close but not quite right.
For instance, friend to friend cards tend to be mainly girl friend to girl friend and they gush on and on about how we've known each other since we were kids, we know everything about each other, blah, blah, blah. Well, I happen to be friends with some ladies I've met at work or I just became friends with someone on the last few years so it's not accurate to say that we've known each other forever and grew up with each other.
I have a hard time finding cards that a girl can give a male friend without implying that their intimate with each other. Men and women can be friends without being sexual with each other, especially if one or both of them is married. How about a buddy-buddy card for men and women friends?
I guess I can understand why there are no cards from men to other men. You don't hear some guy say to his friend "I was thinking of you the other night, dude, and I got you this card to show what you mean to me". Guys have other ways to show their appreciation for their friends that doesn't make it sound like they're possibly hitting on them.
How about cards for one-night stands? Something you can take with you when you go out to get lucky and you can leave it on the nightstand when you sneak out of the room during the night. "The sex was great!!...But I don't want to do it again, ever. It's not you, it's me".
Why have cards only for happy occasions? Wouldn't it be fun to give a griping card to someone? "Do I look like I was put on this Earth to hold your place in line and let you jump in whenever you felt like? Get to the end of the line and wait like the rest of us, you loser","Hey, asshole...next time try parking in one space in the lot instead of straddling two spaces", tell your kid/dog/jerk of a husband/bitchy girlfriend to shut up or I'm going to smack you!". They can encourage people to carry an assortment of cards around to fit any occasion they may have to gripe about and give them to recipients on the spot, either face-to-face or anonymously. Wouldn't you rather have someone give you a gripe card to complain about something you did rather than have them key your car??? It would be good for the giver and the recipient.
